I spent last week getting ready for the speech I did yesterday with Mark Victor Hansen at the SANG Conference (Speakers and Authors Networking Group). There were about 150 sharp authors and speakers from around the world who came to this event in Hollywood, being held through tomorrow. Significant and famous success stories were there, and it was an incredible networking opportunity to mingle with the best. We could actively gather ideas, techniques and strategies from eachother, even if from different industries. Who might have found a faster route to the top of the mountain? We, as peers, were all exchanging insights, and connecting for potential JV partnerships. We even played a game called “Movers and Shakers”. Sitting across a table from one another, we’d get five minutes of brainstorming before we would shift sideways
to have a new person in front of us, starting a new five minutes, and so on. It was an interesting experience. And I could only be there for the first day! So I had some members of my team go on my behalf for today and tomorrow. We are learning how successful databases are built by others, and how they are communicated to. We hope to find people with such databases, interested in doing joint ventures. With other entrepreneurs, we are discussing ways to coordinate our financial efforts and goals.

The Internet has created a new revolutionary world, where your online social network will represent your net worth. Your database can be built through Twittering, Facebook-ing, MySpace-ing, Googling, sharing videos online, etc. These are examples of how you can quickly grow your “social capital”.

It would be an interesting new model, if every author did this for his or her book. This is actually going to be the way of the future. The world is demanding the “essence” of complicated and detailed subjects, boiled down to just a few sentences. So we must learn to do this “essencing”, whether it’s in our marketing or as a summary of our book. Try this with the next book you read, or even on these final chapters of Cash in a Flash. Write no more than 140 characters for each chapter. It’s a valuable learning experience, as you adapt to the current needs of the people.
